Last week when a truck crashed into my parked MS, the police came and a police report was written ->it will show in car fax -> there will be diminished value even if there was no structural damage -> most future buyers will either not consider the car or assign a lower value. The car drives fine and is in the Tesla certified shop now and is thankfully confirmed to have no damage to body frame, it will just get a new front fender and front door. In my books the car will thus be as good as before, but the market value is hurt, which is a very real loss if I were to sell it now. The culprit hasn't offered to compensate. Therefore I will sue him and/or his insurance company, still discussing with my lawyer how to lay it out.
The question is for how much. There are too few data points for accident and non accident Model S for the two of us to figure out the diminished value. What would you amount its diminished value to? This is the car: manufactured October 2012. Milage at time of accident; 19750, P85, silver, black performance leather, extended nappa leather trim (all except top of dash), carbon fiber trim, matching yacht floor, air suspension, tech package, pano roof, dual chargers, jump seats, sound studio, spoiler, fog lamps, alcantara headliner, premium interior lighting (some items were standard at the time but it has all that was possible to add).
It gets factory new fender and door, is otherwise in dent free and unscratched and will get an official accident report. Will be very interested to hear your numbers.
Btw, does anybody know if one can help carfax to get the accidents reported correctly, in this case hopefully 'minor damage, vehicle was driven from scene', as opposed to major damage?
