WAZE Application

Is there anyway that I can install WAZE application onto my Model S85. Right now someone else in the car as to read to me the various warnings from my iphone. I can connect it via bluetooth to the car however that is severely limited and annoying. Is there no one that can port this app to the Tesla Model Operating System ?''

Thanks for your advice.

When Tesla open up to 3rd App developers yes, at the moment no.

I don't think there is anything we can do. The OS is locked down. Reported a highly customized version of ubuntu running on nvidia Tegra 2 (dash screen) and tegra 3 for the main display. Access and the ability to build sand boxed apps was hinted at long ago. A native version of Waze would be a great feature for Tesla IMHO... We can only hope they do that or some form of carplay which would hopefully allow apps to be run on the big screen from the phone...

Here's a weird thing I found:

I had started the Waze app to check the routing before setting off to work. Put the phone down and forgot about it.

While on the way to work, I made a phone call. During the call, Waze was speaking the directions to me over the car speakers.

Not particularly helpful. Reminds me of using siri in the car.

I use Waze on my iPhone every day in my MS. Just pair your phone to the MS audio system, enable the setting in Waze to send guidance via Bluetooth and you'll get nice turn by turn directions via the MS audio system.

You should be able to make waze speak to you all the time, but it may take selecting your phone as the (sole) media source (i.e. no music). If you do this don't forget to push the "play" button after selecting it!

I think when I used Bluetooth to play Waze over the car speakers the ability to use the iPhone's music content was disabled.

There are two separate Bluetooth profiles supported; one for phone calls the other for music. The MS supports both of them. Waze uses the phone profile to speak directions.

I use Waze every day and it pauses the music to speak the Waze directions and works both when the music is being played over Bluetooth from the iPhone (iTunes Music app or IHeartRadio) or from the MS audio system (TuneIn or Slacker).

I didn't do anything special to set this up, just make sure the iPhone is connected to the MS via both the music and phone profiles.

I did notice that waze was bringing up my phone info on the dash whenever it spoke. Perhaps I just had an iPhone glitch that a reboot has remedied. I'll have to check.
