Tweet from Elon:
" Elon Musk @elonmusk
Tesla was just approved for a full Class 1 Massachusetts Auto Sales License by a vote of 4 to 1. Much appreciated! "
Hope this vote will get my car here this month.
Ugh. Quote from the 'Green car reports' above:
"Its chairman William Underriner said NADA "has 'a whole mess of lawyers in Washington' who work on state franchise laws," which presumably the dealer group could deploy in every location Tesla seeks to open a store or service facility.
That's exactly what happened in Colorado in early 2010, when the state dealer group got the law changed. It used to protect franchised dealers from competition by their auto brands; now it flatly bans any automaker from opening any facility, period. Tesla has just a single store in the state, which opened before the law changed."
That decision in Mass. was just for the town of Nantick, apparently. More hassles to come, prob'ly.
Fortunately MA is small, and with Nantick situated 20 miles west of the city center of Boston, it's in reasonable range for most MA residents.
States will eventually figure out the right answer here. This is a temporary problem at worst.
One caveat, my family on my father's side all comes from Texas. It will probably take them just a bit longer to figure ANYTHING out. I love them all but man can they be hard headed.
The town is "Natick"...(can't believe some one just spell checked Brian H)
I live in Natick and have been waiting for a test drive since so long..and leaving the country for good in 2 weeks... the only reason for not buying one.....hope I deserve a test drive.
I wonder if Natick will have a test car soon. I am looking to finalize my build this weekend.
I think MADA is realizing that once a customer walks into a Tesla store, that's the end of the gravy train of expensive luxury car repairs for its dealer network...forever. What really has them peeing in their boots however is the rate at which word is spreading about Tesla in MA. At a Christmas party this past weekend, people formed a line to ask me questions once word leaked I was expecting delivery. Interestingly, one item seemed to impress the ladies more than anything else....ranger service. I'm sure this fact hasn't been lost on the folks in marketing.
I can see Rangers replacing milkmen in the traditional role ...
