I just returned from my trip to the Pennsylvania DMV to register my Model S and pick up my license plates. On the way, I was cut off as the car next to mine very abruptly swerved into my lane. We were side by side going 45 mph with a car directly behind me. I had no choice but to swerve onto the median where a utility pole was not far in front of me. The embankment was about 10 inches high with a 45 degree angle between top and bottom. The Model S maintained perfect control during this maneuver, and the car came to a stop about 5 feet before the pole. I was amazed at the stopping distance given the weight of the car. I was not in a safe area, so I worked my way off of the median an into a parking lot just down the road. I braced myself for the front end and undercarriage damage I knew I would find. I was shocked to see no damage at all. I drove around the parking lot checking the performance of the vehicle and eventually continued on my way. I will get the vehicle checked, but it appears as though there was no impact physically, mechanically, or electrically. As my heartrate has now returned to normal, I am deeply impressed by how the Model S handled a situation that could have led to a serious injury in a lesser vehicle.
