How normal is it for an 85 to beat its expected 5.4 time?
Is this car, and did you do any modification to it?
And did you see this at the bottom:
“While this is well ahead of Tesla’s quoted numbers, we think it will do even better with a full charge.”
I'm not sure how fast my MS85 will be able to accelerate since I haven't yet taken delivery.
However, as one Tesla answered the question: "How does it go?" with
"Like a bat out of hell!"
For me it would be appropriate for the bat to be past its prime. I'm retired and on social security. I doubt that it would be safe for me to do a 0-60 mph under 5 sec.
For younger MS buyers with keener eye sight and quicker reactions, this does look interesting.
Thanks Ron... I'll make sure to floor it a little extra for you ;)
Based on my own tests and others around here, Tesla's official numbers are about 0.4-0.5 seconds too conservative. I've done 0-60 in 5.5 on my S60, which is rated at 5.9. And the P85 has been clocked under 4 on multiple occasions: http://m.motortrend.com/roadtests/alternative/1208_2012_tesla_model_s_te...

I know the feeling; I drove a P85 on my test drive. Enjoy it.
AFAIK Model S acceleration isn't actually build for very low 0-60 numbers, it is passing other cars where you really see it. IE. at 40-80mph acceleration. After that acceleration diminishes as you hit the low torque area of motor RPM.

My impression is that for a 4-door sedan the MS does rather well for both.
I simply tell people that my S85 does 0-60 in 5 seconds and after a little test ride, they don't question it........ :-)
0-90 goes in eight. 0-110 in about 12. 0-60 in 4 and 60-110 in 8.
NEDRA Model S record:
“Dragtimes” Tesla Model S 2012
Owner / Driver: Brooks Weisblat
That's performance version though.
For a 4600 lbs family car that's impressive. It beats for example Porsche Panamera S by one second.
Yeah, this isn't new. MotorTrend got these numbers last year.
