Having a charging port on the driver side is a huge drawback imo, it would block walking path in my garage unless i park in reverse which i never do...
Is a second charging port on the other side too much to ask ? easily done and very practical...
Well it may have been "easily done" if they had designed for it up front.
Two charge ports seems unnecessary, but it could be cool if their manufacturing process and car design was tooled in such away that allowed the chargeport position to be configurable by the buyer.

Actually, while it might be desirable, I can see some significant engineering issues and costs. Aside from a second set of extra heavy cables inside the car and added weight, it would have to be designed so both couldn't be used at the same time. If one was in use, the other one would be inactive so no one gets shocked. This usually means a huge relay to handle 120 KW of a supercharger. These things are really expensive ($500 is not unreasonable), and adds another point failure in the system.
Lastly, it complicates the remote opening, as it would be difficult to sense which one to open when you are near. It could be fixed with double buttons on the 17" display and double buttons on the charger plug, but again, that means new tooling and modifications.
Lastly, the two sides are the inverse of each other, so all new tooling is needed for the cover and receptacle.
In the end, since so few need this feature, I can't see the value of adding so much extra cost, extra weight and complexity.
I know! Put it in the middle, and semi-satisfy everybody.
Right on top.
I will say that the charge port in the middle of the front end of my Leaf is very convenient 95% of the time. Luckily, the drivers rear on the S will be fine in my garage as well as that is "my end". Not sure how that location is going to work at a lot of public chargers around the NW as most are set up for front mount charging of a Leaf. Guess I will get good at backing into charging locations!
I made sure my charging plug was on the correct side for my tesla. It isn't a big deal for an electrical to move a plug...
It would be nice if you could order driver's side or passenger side. Driver's side for me is a PIA.
I can see a future where you can choose which side to put the charge port on. As an owner I have no issues with the charge port where it is at. The charge cable does not block my path and I walk by it with no issue.
I have two large rubber coated hooks on the ceiling and drape the cable through them so it's up in the air, out of the way, and off the floor. When I need to take the charge cable with me it is easy to just unhook them with no need for a ladder. I also have no problems charging at public chargers.
kilimats do you own a Model S?
