I have not been prompted to do the software upgrade. Does anyone know how I get it without the prompt???
I believe if you take your car to a service center they can do it.
The service center can do firmware upgrades. I had 4.5 (an early version on my car via a download. When I had the car at the service center last week, the updated the car to the latest release of 4.5.
I have been told at one of the service centers that you can call in to Tesla and request they push you the update.
4.5 set charge limit feature
I see that we can now charge to various level. I'm wondering what the advantage is? Does charging to lower limits when less is needed preserve the battery? I only drive 50-75 miles a day. Should I be lowering my charge limit? Charge every other day?
I read somewhere that if you lower the limit of charging your battery will last longer. Plus I only drive less then 30 miles a week so I put it all the way down. I get about 115 miles on a full charge when lower all the way down. So that's like Nissan leaf range.
I charge on a 110v and only after hour on at the lowest rate and in the morning use my cell phone to stop the charge and continue the next day after hour.
I think the last version you can also limit the battery also.
You should plug in as much as possible and let the software handles the charging frequency as needed (not every other day as you suggested).
Battery longevity lasts longest if the state of charge is around 50%, so you should set to that level if you can.
That's for months of storage. Doesn't apply so much if the battery is in frequent charge/discharge use. Don't sweat it.

Regarding the 4.5 release, had my 85Kwh MS in for unrelated service last week, and while it was there, they installed the newest version.
1st thing I noticed when I picked it up was that it will only charge to 230 miles on standard charge, with the charge select set to the max standard, instead of 243 miles previously.
2nd thing was that the fan(s) behind the dash run constantly, and are loud. They spin up and down with a pronounced whirling noise that was not previously evident.
3rd thing, after leaving in garage for scheduled charge at 12am, the power drain while parked is significanly higher than previous.
This is especially pronounced if it is left unplugged overnight, dropping from 3-5 Kwh.
Anyone else have the same experience when they "Upgraded" from V4.4 xxxxxx
Be certain to read the release notes. They explain a lot.
Obviously did read the release notes, but they did not give any insight into the change in fan noise from release 4.4 to 4.5.
The vampire drain issue has been talked about alot elsewhere in the forum, but it seems to be worse with 4.5.
The only thing the release notes did comment on was that the range calculations are different for the new charging scheme than old, but did not explain why the 'new' standard fully charged range is 230 instead of 243 miles.
Was just trying to see whether others had similar issues with the 4.5 release.
Covered in several other threads, but with 4.5 they introduced the slider. It allows you to choose the charge level with more choices than just standard and range. When they did that they set it by default to ~230. You can adjust it up one more detente to have 242 if you like, but unless you actually need it, most people are leaving it alone.
The fan noise sounds like a hardware problem. You should have it checked.
The fan noise has been discussed for weeks and there does not seem to be a fix available, yet.
Thanks, thought I had read elsewhere about the fan noise, but was not able to find the thread. Noise was not there before the release 4.5 install and was there after. Don't believe its a hardware issue.
