We designed Model S to be easy to own with annual inspections and routine software updates. Plus, Model S is smart: it periodically monitors itself and can alert Tesla, with your permission, to issues so that they can be resolved quickly and easily. Many issues can be resolved remotely, but if your Model S does require in-person attention, you can bring it to a Tesla Service Center. Incredible service means, in part, not needing it. But when you do, we’re there for you.

Think of Model S as an app on four wheels. Software updates keep your Model S current with the latest features developed by Tesla.
Just like your laptop, Tesla will provide periodic updates to your Model S. When an update is released, you’ll be notified on your 17” touchscreen. You can install the update immediately, or schedule it to install at night while you’re sleeping.
The kind of new features that can be added to your Model S might surprise you. For example, by default, Model S does not slowly move forward when you release the brake pedal like cars equipped with automatic transmissions. In the automotive world this is called “creep.” With an electric motor there’s no need for this, but some early customers miss it. Using software updates, we can upgrade every Model S with a “creep” option which customers can enable using the 17” touchscreen. Now that’s 21st century service.
MORE THAN JUST AN ANNUAL INSPECTION
Tesla Service includes everything needed to keep your Model S in great condition. System monitoring is always on alert and software updates keep your car up-to-date with new features even after you’ve taken delivery. To us, “annual service” is really everyday service.

Prepaid plans must be purchased either at the time of your order or within 30 days of your Tesla delivery and are not available for Roadsters.
