I went on vacation for 7 days and purposely left my car unplugged. I have the 85KW battery. If made sure everything was off and even took out my thumb drives which have a small lite. The battery drained about 85 miles over the 7 days.
And you're probably on 4.5. Negligible drain for me on 5.0.
That's weird. Lithium batteries should have extremely little loss when stored, even for weeks. Must be a leak / drain somewhere IMO.
There have already been enough experiments done by various owners that I'm surprised people keep repeating this exercise. This is a little like poking yourself with a needle to see if it hurts, IMO.
Personally, I plan to keep my car plugged in as the manual recommends. Vampire drain will go away with either 5.0 or whatever update comes next.
Thomas N. How come you are on version 5.0 when the rest of us are still version 4.5
New deliveries in the last month or so have 5.0 installed as standard. While these brave new owners test out this version the rest of the owners are still on 4.5 until all the bugs are hashed out.
When the bug free version of 5.0 is pushed out to your car, the daily loss should be down to 1-2 miles per day.
Vampire loss in version 4.5 is approximately 3 to 4 kWh/day depending on climate, etc.
@SHY: It's not loss from the LiIon batteries, it's all the electronics that remain on in the car while you're away. They drain the small 12V battery, which is periodically charged from the main battery, so the drain effects your range
Yep. New delivery so I'm on 5.0. My car hasn't been idle much but over the course of eight hours during a day of being parked at a baseball tournament it lost 0 miles.
I have 5.0 on my new delivery. Left car unplugged at airport over a span of 3 days twice so far. Recorded 1-2 kWh/day loss.
drain on mine is about 10 miles per day and I'm down to 230 on a full daily charge. At this rate I'll have a $100k leaf in no time. I am still on 4.5 as well.
Tonysled, use volkerize.com to search for your issue. You can easily return to your original rated charge and you are not actually experiencing degradation of your battery at this point. The day to day vampire train will as noted drop to 1-2 miles per day after the update.
My car was delivered 10 days ago with 5.0. I left the car in my garage unplugged for 4 days and lost approx 1 mi/day.
To the OP, I don't have charging in my apartment, and have the opportunity to charge on Saturday night (coming up in a few minutes from now). Since I have a 60, by the time Saturday rolls around and we are up for a roadtrip, our 182 miles ends up closer to 120.
Needless to say, we are anxiously awaiting 5.0 for our situation.
I like the sound of 1-2 miles of vampire drain per day (24 hrs) but not 1-2 kWh/day as epac reported.
OP, what do you mean by turning everything off? Doesn't the car do that for all systems that you control such as lights, media, web browser, AC, etc.?
Has anyone calculated how much effect having the alarm function activated consumes? Mine has always been off and I'd estimate my loss on 4.5 to be closer to 5 than 10 miles per day.

Peter85, a few minutes after leaving, the MS shuts down all necessary systems. When the door handles are presented, via FOB or walking up, the car start waking up. In 12 seconds (by my stopwatch) the car is fully operational again. Everything stays up while you are in the car. Also you can add those 12 seconds (actually a few more then 12) to your phone app access to the car when it's asleep.

Travel is very problematic for vampires. They can only really do it (comfortably) at night* and that cuts down their available travel time by about 50%**. The stolen Tesla miles come into their own right here, greatly increasing the distance that they can cover during this time.
Why Tesla is granting them this boon in unknown, but perhaps Elon sees a two-pronged approach here. First, vampires may be the perfect first wave of settlers for Mars with their great ability to withstand adverse environments, and perhaps the sun is even less of a problem for them there being farther away***. Second, with the vampires gone this leaves the scene open for the now unsupervised zombie apocalypse which will once and for all demonstrate the great superiority of the Tesla super chargers over traditional gas stations etc. If it works then this can be truly brilliant and the ultimate pay day for all you TSLA owners out there.
I just hope the various possible failure modes have been taken properly into account …
* They can travel at day by taking pains to put themselves in a well protected lightproof cabin, box, etc., but this smacks of desperation and it leaves them open to a wide range of attacks that take advantage of the outside sun to curtail their ability to defend themselves. Much better then to spend daylight hours in your castle dungeon (or equivalent) and only travel at night when you're teh awesome.
** Keeping arctic and antarctic peculiarities out of this, and averaging over the year.
*** An hypothesis has been fielded, although it does not see much scholarly support****, that it is not really the sun as such that is dangerous to vampires. Rather, it's the Sun God who for whatever reason really really hates them and whenever he sees one he smites it. If this holds true then Mars may not be far enough away to escape his gaze.
**** Nor do any hypotheses concerning the existence of vampires, sadly.
