I just asked my agent to give me a quote on insurance and was blown over. $3,500 per year with a $1000 deductable. Has anyone seen better rates? I am with Mercury.
OUCH! I'll call mine again, I have Ameriprise through Costco.
Ameriprise quoted me based on $90k MSRP, $500 deductible, full coverage, 11k miles a year, car is stock with no aftermarket improvements, in the garage at home and secure facility at work.
$1,441.80 per year
Location location location... car insurance quotes without your location are no different than real estate prices without the context of location.
I've seen my car insurance cut in third after moving from one place to another.
Fair enough, Redwood City, CA
The $3500 was in Los Angeles.
Damn, now I have that stupid Farmers jingle in my head! :(
I got a quote some months ago from State Farm for my Menlo Park location, with multi car discount, good driver, loyalty, vehicle safety, mature driver, and low annual mileage and it came to $788.89 per six months. Of course " subject to change" is also stated. This is for 100/300/25, $5000 med, uninsured motorist 100/300. Hope this helps.
I believe most insurance quotes are based on many criteria...
1) Driving Record (on file with DMV where you plan to register the vehicle)
2) Location (where you live)
4) Type of vehicle
5) Amount of miles driven per year
6) Deductable (amount you are willing to spend out of pocket before insurance kicks in)
With that said, the Model S should be on par (or similar) to that of any luxury sedan of similar price, safety, and power.
They asked me if the car had security? I said, it will not start without the proximity key so it can't be stolen.
And TM can locate it any time it wants to or is asked.
I could as well with my FindMyModelS.app or whatever Tesla Motors will call it! Oh there she is! Wait, is she pulling 2 G's right now?? Officers!!
Wawanesa Mutual Insurance, San Diego CA AAA rated
My Model S Sport with 11K yearly, full coverage $960/yr.
Found them when insuring an Acura NSX 15 years ago.
First quote that is better then mine, will try them also and thanks for sharing it "jedwards"
On another thread, many found that CU rates were the best, at least for financing, and at least one or two CUs were pretty much wide-open membership. Ask around. Perhaps they have accompanying insurance coverages.
The "delivery in 2012" email spurred me to get an insurance quote from my current insurance company Mercury. They wanted 3800/year. Time to go shopping.
I'm in San Jose CA and State Farm quoted me $2060 for 12 months... even with multi-policy discounts with home & other cars & a perfect driving record!?!
What level of coverage & deductibles did you request in your quotes?
USAA quote was $400 more per year than the 2001 Celica it is replacing
Mine with Farmers is $1600 per year, with $500/500/500K liability, and $500 deductible. Multi-policy discounted for cars, home, etc.
Annual rates I was quoted for San Jose, CA on a nearly fully loaded performance model:
$1162: State Farm
$1809: Liberty Mutual
I'm paying $1150 w/ geico $500 deductable.
per annum or 6 mo.?
I'm in Cali State Farm multi car house. With 1000 deductible 6 months
@ 475.76 month.
‼ Does that include everything? What was the 'delta' for adding the MS?
We added our MS as a third car, and our premium thru USAA increased $569/6mos...$1000 deductible...in San Jose, CA...DeDe
I'm a big fan of Teslas, and Tesla motors, this discussion about matching the Tesla drivers with the right insurance company looked interesting. We are agents, and believe we can help and add to the topic at hand. Apologies if this forum was intended solely for Tesla owners.
*auto insurance, one size does not fit all*
Insurance companies look for different things such as, location, age, occupation, and weight these factors diffidently. While Ameriprise, Mercury, USAA, State Farm, Farmers, AAA or Wawanesa Mutual might be right for one tesla owner, another company might give you a lower premium *and* better coverage.
*get your quote shopped*
Does your current insurance agent shop your quote to multiple carriers? We are independent agents who represent a number of auto insurance companies and
would like to shop your quote and return with the best, most competitive quote we can.
*the market shifts*
After we find you the best quote we can, we will continue to shop periodically, or as needed. The market changes from time to time, meaning that we might be able to get you a better deal as time goes by. If anybody would like a quote, free or charge or obligation, we would be happy to help http://goo.gl/zKaId

zip codes change insurance rates drastically in CA. $300 a month ain't so bad if you live where i live and that's what you're used to. having said that, time to quote out some other companies.
My quote with USAA was only about $150 per term (6 mo) more than the 2006 Prius it replaced with a lower deductible to boot.
If you are in California this should help you get a competitive bid from several insurance companies, http://petalumainsurance.net/insurance/auto.html
