Many of us are installing NEMA 14-50 outlets instead of HPC. I've seen a couple of comments about using hose hangers or just hooks on the wall to support the cable when not in use.
Has anyone seen any reference to being able to buy the hanger part of the HPC as a separate item? (arrowed below)
Once I see the 14-50 cord I will know if I can adapt a 50amp retractable reel. I won't know for sure until I see the Tesla cord.
I am hoping I will be able to buy am empty reel and roll the Tesla cord on to it.
I'm looking for something like that too.
Those reels look pretty expensive though.
Garden hose reels are cheap! Lots of suppliers carry cord reels, tho'.

I have a very similar setup. I ran a NEMA 14-50 at 24 inches above the floor in the garage. Then hung a garden hose hanger at 48 inches, directly above it. It's about 5 feet from the charging port when the car is in the garage, and close enough to reach when the car is in the drive.
These hangers can be had for about 10 bucks. They are plastic and will not chaffe the charging cord.
Anyone else out there getting a second power cord? I want to have one in the garage I don't have to keep moving, and another stored in the frunk for charging at work, ect. I'll probably get a shallow plastic storage tub or box about 18 inches or so that I can put the cable in. That way if it's wet (It's the Pacific Northwest), or muddy, it keeps the frunk clean.
Is it safe to reel them up though when in use?
Looking at the descriptions I'm not sure the adapters can take the current, unless you just use it as a simple reel in which case you might as well just spend $20 on a simple hose hanger or $5 on a plastic-coated hook.

@jbunn - No need to store it in the fronk: Tesla supplies a zippered pouch (with a mesh panel to air out the contents if you put the cord away wet) to hold a charging cord and spare adapter tips. It stows comfortably in a small well at the left side of the cargo space next to the cavity where the third row seats fold away. The cord is elegantly designed, with a much smaller gauge cable and is lighter by far than the Roadster's charging cord, and takes up very little space.
Anyone seen anything official on how much an extra mobile charging cable will cost? I haven't. Hope its a lot less than on the Roadster.
I don't plan to get an extra connector, and the one I have will stay in my garage, possibly unless I go on a road trip. Will use a cheap hose hangar for it.
I don't expect to actually get any use of it on a road trip, since both the superchargers and any public charging stations I use will have their own cords. All I should really need is the J1772 adapter, right?
Depends on where you live and whether you might need to plug into a NEMA 14-50 at an RV park en route.
I plan to avoid RV parks like the plague, and fortunately it seems I will be able to do that. I've plotted out all the long trips I'm likely to make in my S and there are always J1772 chargers available where needed - and there will likely be superchargers by the time I get my car.
The mobile connector has a huge, heavy block on it about a foot from the wall end. You can see part of it in the pic on the charging page. Unless you are parking with your charging port very close to the outlet I don't think a reel will buy you much, if it's even possible to rig it. You could probably have something custom made along the lines of the J1772 spec, but then you're basically re-engineering the HPWC. Not sure how much you'd actually save, and you'd still have to use the adapter. I'm not completely sure, but in my experience the J1772 won't pop the charge port, so you have to open it from the touch screen.
You realize that RV park charging will take about half the time that J1772 charging will take. 50 amp vs. 30 amp.

Yes, I'm aware that most J1772 chargers are only 30 amps. That's still enough to add 150+ miles overnight at a hotel, so fine for my purposes.
I'm with you Spaghetti! The "x-country in a Tesla" blog from a few weeks ago was almost enough to turn me off my reservation, with their repeated mentions of sitting in RV parks for hours during the day.
But then I remembered that I only take real road trips every couple of years so it wouldn't be a common issue. My wife and I just completed a trip from Seattle to New England, so I don't think we're likely to do it again before there are superchargers en route!
I also noticed the holster that seems to come with the HPWC and wondered if it is for sale by itself to use with the UMC? Next time I talk to someone from Tesla I will ask. It would make a nice way to ahng/store the UMC plug when not charging.

Some will be for the electrochormatic dimming (at least one front and one rear)
Actually, I asked a TM technician what they were and the one behind the rear view mirror is a rain sensor and the other is the ambient outside light sensor.

Nope. The 50A 14-50 socket will deliver 40A to your car (80% rule). The 30A J1772 will deliver 30A to your car (it's being fed by a 40A circuit).
So it's not half the time but 75% of the time.
Plug it in your NEMA 14-50 and leave it there.
The other plug (that you insert into the charging port) just goes on top of it when not in use.
The charging cable is sturdy but very light.
Properly installed NEMA can more than handle the weight.
As far as the cable itself, you can jam it with the garage door and leave it overnight - absolutely nothing will happen to it.
It's a very well-built and resilient device, no need to babysit it and feed it with a silver spoon ;)
I just got this message from Elon:
All high power connectors now being built include the hanger.
5,000 more hangers are scheduled for delivery in 3 days to Tesla. At that point, we will have enough to send out to all customers that did not get one.
This is great news. Was just about to put up a hose hanger but now I'll wait for the OEM
Got my HPWC from Tesla today. No hanger. :-( Note inside said they would begin shipping them to customers in February. Guess that didn't happen!
They may have begun, and it's proceeding very slowly. ;)
We received ours yesterday and no hanger with same February note... hopefully this isn't one with the fuse issue.
